Join us as we celebrate our member, the YMCA at VT, with a ribbon cutting.
This event will take place on Wednesday, October 9th @ 4pm at 1000 North Main Street SW, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
Please arrive prior to 4 PM and the ribbon will be cut promptly at 4:10 PM. All members are encouraged to sign the ribbon as a keepsake for the YMCA.
For 150 years, the YMCA at Virginia Tech has served the campus and community by adapting to meet the region’s changing needs. As a leading non-profit organization, we remain an active community partner in environmental stewardship, food insecurity programs, and numerous social well-being initiatives. To further advance this work, we are excited to announce the opening of our newly created Welcoming Center!
The new Y Welcoming Center will help meet the growing needs of the international newcomer and immigrant populations that seek to call the New River Valley home. Funded by a generous grant from Lowe’s Hometowns, this newly constructed Welcoming Center elevates the YMCA at Virginia Tech as the 19th Y in the nation to offer such a resource, joining other YMCAs around the country as we help immigrants successfully integrate into American society.
The Welcoming Center will act as a community hub and connector, bridging the gap between newcomers and current residents. The Center will provide support in five programmatic areas: language and education, economic integration, health and wellbeing, community navigating, citizenship and civic engagement. In addition to the programs and services offered in these five areas, it will also provide information and referrals, while making social connections to help newcomers build their support system.
