Title: Forecast Tools and Technology in the NWS

Abstract: The way we forecast is constantly changing as our technology and tools advance. This talk will cover examples of such and demonstrate how we provide a more tailored customer forecast to aid in decision support of various hazardous weather, including a shift from deterministic to probabilistic information.

Bio: As the Science and Operations Officer here at the Blacksburg NWS Office, I ensure the staff of forecasters are trained on the latest technology, tools, and techniques to stay proficient in forecast and warning operations. I also try to infuse research and academia into operations having a strong connection with universities such as Virginia Tech. Prior to Blacksburg, I have also forecast at the Atlanta and Indianapolis NWS offices following my graduation from NC State. My overall interest in weather mainly came about from experiencing the 1993 Storm of the Century, Hurricanes Bertha and Fran in 1996 and pretty much every thunderstorm.
